WORTH
WAITING FOR For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down—when
we die and leave these bodies—we will have a home in heaven, an
eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. – 2 Corinthians 5:1 (NLT) A
day is coming when we will cast off the restraints of our present flesh
and be freed to wholly function as the people God created us to be. This
life which we hold onto with the tenacity of a dog with his favorite
bone, in the days to come will appear quite worthless to us. One day we
will breathe our last breath, the electrical signals in our brain will
cease to function, and this tent which is our body will be dismantled so
that we can be recreated with an eternal body fashioned by the hands of
God Himself.
The Christ Follower wonders why he or she is not at home in this
world. Why is there always a sense of dissatisfaction with the present
life, even though we know that we are assured of eternity? The answer is
simple, yet profound. We are not in the environment we were created for.
We are not citizens of this kingdom, but of the one fashioned by our
Lord. When we depart this life we will finally realize for the very
first time what home is really
all about. It is heaven that we experience what we have always longed
for – the last piece of the puzzle is put into place, and in the
presence of God we thrive. |
