NOTHING BEYOND GOD’S ABILITY

I think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia . We were crushed and completely overwhelmed, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we learned not to rely on ourselves, but on God who can raise the dead. – 2 Corinthians 1:8-9 (NLT)

The One that has the ability to resurrect from the dead is the One that holds the key to all hope. Nowhere does Paul explain the details of this trial he was dealing with, but he shares with us how it was overcome – at a time when he was literally facing death, he was able to place his faith in the God who can raise the dead. Despite the overwhelming nature of his trial he knew that nothing he was facing was a match for a God that could restore the breath of life to a dead body.

It is important to understand and accept this fact before the trials of life come our way. Our trust in the God of the resurrection today will prepare us to rely on Him in the problems of tomorrow. It is not that we will not face trial, but that God is with us in the period of testing, and through our trust in Him we will see victory. We are not seeking self-reliance but God-reliance. This is the key to living a life centered in unending hope.

PRAYER THOUGHT: God, I trust in You, the Source of resurrection. My life is in Your hands.
