BROUGHT BY BLOOD

But now you belong to Christ Jesus. Though you once were far away from God, now you have been brought near to him because of the blood of Christ. – Ephesians 2:13 (NLT)

The distance between God and those who have not yet trusted Christ cannot be measured by the usual means. It is a gap that cannot be bridged by making a journey toward a certain destination. We cannot draw closer to God through a deeper level of concentration or meditation hoping to reach some mystical sense of His presence. We are brought near to God through the blood of Jesus Christ. It is only through the sacrifice of the Son of God that we can be brought into relationship with Him. This is the exclusive means of entry that is offered to us. No elaborate spiritual scheming is necessary, just simple trust in the finished work of Jesus Christ.

What do we find when we are brought into the presence of God? We find a Father that is loving, kind, and wants the best for us. But we discover much more than that, as wonderful as that is. We find a God of power, holiness, justice, and mercy. In the throne room we access by means of the blood of Christ we fall on our faces in reverence toward the One that bids us to come closer. And in His presence we are struck with the magnitude of what He has done and is doing for us in Christ.

PRAYER THOUGHT: Father, thank you for closing the gap, for making me acceptable to You through the sacrifice of Your Son.
