ABSENCE OF
FEAR Because God's children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—Jesus
also became flesh and blood by being born in human form. For only as a
human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of
the Devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he deliver
those who have lived all their lives as slaves to the fear of dying. –
Hebrews 2:14-15 (NLT)
If you were to survey almost any crowd today concerning what they
fear the most, you would undoubtedly find that the vast majority fear
the prospect of their own death most of all. For most of the population
on planet earth, the thought of dying brings feelings of terror and
helplessness. This fear is even common among those who profess Christ as
Lord and have trusted in Him for salvation.
Fear of our own earthly demise is understandable, yet irrational
when viewed in the light of what Christ has accomplished for us through
the Cross Event. By giving His life for us on the cross, Jesus utterly
destroyed Satan's death grip on humanity. Through the sacrifice of
Himself Jesus freed us from the power of death. Our bondage to death is
released when we place our trust in Christ and the coming resurrection.
The promise to all Christ followers is that death, rather than something
to be feared, is something to look forward to. It is in death that we
are ushered fully into the presence of Almighty God. PRAYER THOUGHT: Lord, I am no longer afraid. |
