REQUIREMENT
MET Therefore, it was necessary for Jesus to be in every respect like us, his
brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High
Priest before God. He then could offer a sacrifice that would take away
the sins of the people. Since he himself has gone through suffering and
temptation, he is able to help us when we are being tempted.
– Hebrews 2:17-18 (NLT)
For Jesus to fulfill His desire to be in relationship with us, He
had to become like us by taking on human form and dwelling among us. He
had to experience life as we experience it – joy, sorrow, sleep, work,
family, tears, sweat, exhaustion, adrenaline, celebration, suffering,
conflict, temptation – all were a part of His life just as they are a
part of ours.
Our Lord could not have related to us on our level without
becoming like us. He could not have represented us before the Father as
our High Priest until He walked this earth in our shoes. The requirement
to stand as our mediator as well as our Savior was met in Christ's
willingness to live as us, yet not sin. It was met in Jesus' desire to
not only come down from the throne of glory and live with us, but to
overcome the struggle with us and for us. It is in Christ's becoming a
man but not succumbing to the temptations of man that has freed us to
stand before God with confidence as we live in the righteousness offered
us by Jesus. PRAYER THOUGHT: Father, thank You for Jesus'
willingness to meet the requirement for my deliverance. I praise You
that He did it for me. |
