SIGNS OF THE TIMES

Then Jesus shouted out again, and he gave up his spirit.  At that moment the curtain in the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart, and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead.  – Matthew 27:50-52 (NLT)

      Just a moment ago the religious leaders, by-standers, and even the criminals hanging on the crosses to Jesus’ left and right were mocking Him. They claimed to desire a sign from Jesus that would prove He was the Christ. Now, as Jesus takes His last breath the signs appear in rapid succession but the mocking has come to an abrupt end. The curtain torn in two represented the ending of the Law and full access into the presence of God. The creation responded to the death of the God-man with an earth that trembled and exploding rocks. The bodies of the dead walked again, a living prophecy of the resurrection of Christ that would come in three days.

       These signs are a clear demonstration of what the Cross means to all of humankind. It is in the Cross Event that we find full and complete deliverance from the bondage that has held us in its grasp. It is in the Cross Event that we are able to approach God in complete confidence knowing that the dividing wall has been removed. It is in the Cross Event that we begin to experience the full expression of love for the very first time.

PRAYER THOUGHT: Jesus, I praise You for Your willingness to lay down Your life so that my life could be saved.
