A NEW KIND OF FISHING

One day as Jesus was walking along the shore beside the Sea of Galilee , he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—fishing with a net, for they were commercial fishermen.  Jesus called out to them, "Come, be my disciples, and I will show you how to fish for people!"  And they left their nets at once and went with him. – Matthew 4:18-20 (NLT)

Jesus tends to invade the ordinary. He offers a challenge to two men who are deeply involved in the routine of everyday life. Imagine going to work today and having the Messiah drop in with a call to immediately drop what you are doing and follow Him wherever He chooses to take you. In addition Jesus’ call is to a new way of doing life. It is nothing less than a radical shift in purpose, outlook, and commitment. Forget the fish; we are going to catch people!

The challenge to move from the mundane to ministry is given to the men and women of every generation. It is a call to give up what we have for what God desires. The Christ asks us to respond to His call with an acceptance that moves us from the ordinary into the supernatural realm. Where Jesus leads He expects us to follow. When God calls He expects us to act on His call.

PRAYER THOUGHT:  God, teach me how to fish. I’m up for the challenge and ready to follow wherever you lead me.
